18-year-old right-hander Shohei Otani, a Japanese high school star, is pursuing a career in Major League Baseball instead of playing professionally in Japan. He was selected in the first round of this week’s amateur draft by the Nippon-Ham Fighters (NPB), but still wants to play in the United States.

Seoul (Korea). Host Korea got a satisfying ending to the XXV IBAF 18U Baseball World Championship. They shut out Japan 3-0 on Saturday morning at Mokdong Stadium in Seoul to finish in fifth place in the final standings. Three pitchers combined to allow just four Japanese hits en route to the victory. The offense was led by Dae Young Yoon, who highlighted the game with a solo homerun in the ninth.

18U BWC: Chinese Taipei claims Bronze behind Gem of Jen Ho Tseng

Seoul (Korea). Chinese Taipei has won the bronze medal at the XXV IBAF 18U Baseball World Championship. They defeated Colombia 4-1 in a rematch of their second-round game from Friday. The match had a similar feel, as the dethroned 18U Baseball World Champion scored three quick runs in the first en route to a third-place finish. The South Americans meanwhile celebrate one of their best tournament results at this age category. Chinese Taipei is winning its sixth bronze medal in history.

USA wins XXV IBAF 18U Baseball World Championship

Seoul (Korea). The United States have won the XXV IBAF 18U Baseball World Championship for the first time since 1999, when they beat host Chinese Taipei in the finals. At Mokdong Stadium on Saturday evening in Seoul, Korea they downed Canada 6-2 in the Gold Medal Game. Led by a combined four RBI of Jeremy Martinez and Reese McGuire Team USA decided the showdown against their neighbors from the north.

On Friday morning they defeated Colombia 3-1 behind a strong pitching performance. Improving to 3-2 they are still not able to reach the Gold Medal Game due to the tiebreakers following their results from earlier in the tournament against Canada, USA and Japan.

USA, Canada to play for Gold at XXV IBAF 18U Baseball World Championship

Seoul (Korea). Team USA and Canada will play for the Gold Medal at the XXV IBAF 18U Baseball World Championship in Seoul, Korea on Saturday. The championship game is scheduled to start at 6pm local time. Canada already was qualified for the final prior to the start of the last second-round game day. The United States reached it thanks to a thrilling comeback win over Japan on Friday evening. In other games Korea defeated Canada, but still has to settle for the game for fifth. Also Chinese Taipei clinched a bronze medal game participation, where they again will face Colombia.

Seoul (Korea). Korea defeated Canada 9-3 on Friday afternoon, but the Maple Leafs are still going to the Gold Medal Game of the XXV IBAF 18U Baseball World Championship on Sunday. Their opponent and home field advantage will be determined in the evening game between the United States and Japan. Korea also has to wait. For the host that game will decide if they play for third or fifth place in the final standings.

Seoul (Korea). The United States have reached the Gold Medal Game at the XXV IBAF 18U Baseball World Championship. They rolled over Japan 10-5 in the last game of the second round, erasing deficits twice in the process. Japan led 3-0 and 5-3, but a wild seventh inning which featured two fierce collisions at the plate changed the momentum and gave the US the crucial advantage.

18U BWC: USA tops Chinese Taipei to stay in Race

Seoul (Korea). Team USA defeated Chinese Taipei 5-1 on Thursday afternoon at Mokdong Stadium. Both teams are now tied in the second-round standings with 2-2 records. The United States broke a tie in the third inning and never looked back in a game with a combined 23 hits, just three walks and six runs. Stephen Gonsalves went the distance to lay the groundwork for the victory.
